The exhibition "Faces of Asia" and the accompanying catalogue demonstrate the commitment of the Museum of Fine Arts to the study and publication of its permanent collections and to presenting the lesser-known aspects of its holdings to a wide audience. "Faces of Asia" is the first cross-cultural exhibition of portraiture from China, Japan, India, and Iran. Considering both the relative dearth of scholarship on Asian portraiture and the inherent fascination that this genre holds for museum visitors, it is fitting that we should undertake this important project.
