"One of the most beautiful chapels in the land" Fan vaults, arching and swirling overhead, a masterwork of form and space - this is the nineteenth-century chapel, once feared doomed, now restored and resurrected in the National Gallery of Canada. Built in 1 887-88 by the Grey Nuns of the Cross in their Convent of Our Lady of the Sacred Heart, Ottawa, the chapel is one of many designs of the architect-priest, Georges Bouillon, a native of Rimouski, Quebec, who did some of his finest work in the national capital, including the splendid interior of the Cathedral-Basilica of Notre Dame.
