The Irish Arts Review was founded in 1984, as a quarterly publication specializing in the visual arts in Ireland, both ancient and modern. Converting to the more useful yearbook form in 1988, it has continued to publish the most recent scholarship in the field while including more broadly-based studies by Irish art historians and critics. This year a retrospective calendar has been introduced providing an annotated reference to the principal events in the visual arts over the past year. That year saw a flurry of activity, in terms of exhibitions and publications, around Jack B Yeats, and the particular emphasis of this volume on him reflects that surge of interest.
