The British Royal Collection includes superlative works of art in numerous areas, but is perhaps most widely known for its old master drawings. The thirty thousand old master and modern drawings, housed in the Royal Library at Windsor Castle, have been gathered by many monarchs over more than three centuries. The collection is specially famous for its Italian drawings. These include an unrivalled group of six hundred Leonardos and concentrations of the work of other great draughtsmen as well as single sheets chosen according to the changing tastes and interests of the Royal Family. Over the years, skillful and vigilant advisers to the Crown have assisted with the acquisitions of individual drawings and entire collections.
